Boliw

This artisanal African sculpture, likely inspired by Burkina Faso traditions, features an elongated vertical form in dark brown fired clay with natural motifs and grooves. The top, adorned with a rustic head featuring white and ochre accents, and the fine branches dotted with round decorations (white, yellow, green), evoke a stylized flora. The widened base, supported by three sturdy feet and decorated with black and white dotted patterns, adds a tribal touch. It may represent an object of worship or a fetish used by certain Burkinabé peoples, such as the Lobi with their "Batéba," to ward off evil spirits or honor protective genies, reflecting a deep spiritual connection with nature and ancestors.
