Biography

Hamed Ouattara is a multidisciplinary artist and designer born in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. Self-taught and deeply rooted in West African material culture, he transforms discarded industrial oil drums into sculptural furniture and collectible design objects of international renown.

His works are held in the permanent collections of five major institutions: the Victoria & Albert Museum (London), the Centre Pompidou (Paris), the Vitra Design Museum (Germany), the Brooklyn Museum (New York) and the Denver Art Museum (USA).

Represented by Friedman Benda gallery in New York, his studio SHO develops a body of work where functional art, sculptural form, and African contemporary identity converge.
